Between January 27-28, 1922, a massive blizzard pummeled the upper South and middle Atlantic United States, later called the Knickerbocker storm. It was named after a tragic event during the blizzard - the collapse of the Knickerbocker Theatre in Washington D.C. shortly after 9 p.m. on January 28, which took 98 lives and injured 133.
